Arc’teryx Cerium vs. Atom Jacket - Which one to buy?
These jackets are nothing alike, but they're both considered mid layers. So, which one do you choose? If you want to know, it's the Cerium LT. If you want to know why, I'll tell you right now. And I'll start by talking about the Atom jacket. This is available as a hooded version or a non-hooded. It has so little insulation that today is about 48° and I'm pretty chilly even in the direct sun. I can't wait to put my Cerium back on. Oh, it's so much better. If you want to know the details about this jacket, I've done a review if you want to check it out after this. I mean, it's the definition of a super lightweight jacket. If you live somewhere like Florida or SoCal, this may be the only thing you need. But if you live somewhere where it gets even a little bit cold, it's just not going to be enough on its own. It does a really good job underneath a rain jacket on those mild wet days. And that's mostly because of how lightweight it is. It's really good at moisture wicking. And of course, it's Arc'teryx, so it fits nice and is comfortable and everything. And this jacket is a size medium. Remember that for later. And now we're on to the part of the video where I get to be warm. You know, for most of the fall, winter, and spring here in the Pacific Northwest, this is just a better jacket. And I think that there's a real place for a jacket like the Atom. But if you're looking for something to actually keep you warm or defend against the elements in any kind of way, the Cerium is the way to go. I find myself wearing it as a standalone almost all the time. Jackets like this have really become one of my favorite go-to's. In fact, I've been reviewing a lot of them lately. And if you live in an alpine environment or the Midwest or somewhere where it gets actually genuinely cold, this is one heck of a mid layer itself. You can layer a sweatshirt underneath this and then put this on with a rain jacket and you're ready for some serious winter weather. But overall, it's a packable down puffer jacket, windproof, lightly water resistant, and it's got pockets and waist cinchies. And this one has a nice comfy hood, but you can get it without a hood if you want one like that, too. Remember earlier when I said my Atom jacket was a size medium? Well, my Cerium is a size extra large. And that to me is crazy. I'm 6'2, 190 lb, and I also have a size large beta rain jacket from Arc'teryx. So, that's three different jackets with three different sizes for one of the exact same body. So, definitely try it on before you buy it. Whenever it comes to Arc'teryx, I talked so long the sun went away. If you can have both of these jackets, then buy both of them because they're great. But if you can only pick one, get the Cerium because it's just better at being a jacket in all seasons than the Atom. If you like this video, check out my channel. You can't have a Clif Bar, bro. I mean, I guess you could, but I'm just not going to feed it to you. All right, let's go.
