The “hiking sneaker” - Merrell speed solo mid waterproof
(Please note the below text is a transcript of the video)
Merrell calls the Speed Solo Mid a hiking boot, and it's just not. To me, the term hiking boot suggests that it can go a longer distance and can carry at least some weight. I wear a weighted vest occasionally, and it only takes a few miles before my feet are sore if I'm wearing these shoes. So, if you categorize these as hiking boots, they fail completely. But what if you categorize them as outdoorsy sneakers? All of a sudden, I'm wearing a highly capable high-top sneaker that's waterproof, can go off pavement, and has incredible out-of-the-box comfort, all while providing solid neutral support for my day-to-day activities. And it's no wonder that a shoe like this came from a brand like Merrell, who's well known for making excellent all-round hiking shoes. It's just that in this case, they ended up making a sneaker. It has impact protection on the toe and the heel for anything you might bump into out there. Better durability and grip than you might find from a comparable sneaker. And it's available in tons of fun colors, so you can really customize it to your taste. Even though the Speed Solo is a failure as a hiking shoe, it actually makes a really good sneaker.
