Ridiculously versatile - Outdoor Research Helium Down Hoodie

It seems like pretty much every outdoor brand has a version of a packable down puffer, and that's for a pretty good reason. They are ridiculously versatile, and that is not an exception when it comes to the Outdoor Research Helium hoodie. It's windproof, water resistant for up to about an hour and a half, thanks to a DWR coating from the factory, and like the name would suggest, is a very lightweight jacket for how much warmth it provides. I've been wearing this for about the past month, and it's becoming a go-to coat, even in a flashy color like this iPhone 17 orange that I chose. Outdoor Research calls it Spice, but I guess the big benefit is you'll never get lost in a crowd. It comes with some nice features that a lot of jackets in this category don't have. Things like lined pockets, fully adjustable hood, and a nice drawstring around the bottom. One of the nitpicks is that the drawstring around the bottom only has an adjustment on one side. Doesn't affect the functionality, but if you're a little bit OCD like me, it's kind of nice to have pulls on both sides. And the reason for the contrast fabric is that Outdoor Research claims that this fabric is better at being water resistant. I have yet to get wet and I've worn it outside multiple times in wet weather. I can put it underneath a size large rain jacket and it fits really well. As far as size goes, I'm 6'2, 190 lb, and this is how it fits. It packs down in its own hood pretty well. And in the world of packable down jackets, that's kind of what you would expect. It does have real down feathers inside of it, which Outdoor Research claims to be sustainably sourced, but either way, the performance of down is hard to beat. It's got the big oversized pockets inside to stuff gloves in or whatever. And there's a couple of quirky things about it, too. On the left pocket, there's a double-sided zipper, but there's no way to access the pocket from inside the jacket. So, I'm not sure why they would need a way to zip it from the inside, but that's there. It has a key hook in the left pocket as well, which I think is pretty nice. And my favorite feature about this jacket is the external drawstring on the hood. Sounds like a little thing, but whenever you pull it tight, the insulation inside acts like little ear muffs, and that drawstring doesn't rub up against your ears whenever you move your head. It's a nice touch. This jacket is really nice and I'm interested to see what would compare to it. So, if you have one in mind, leave it in the comments and maybe I'll grab it and do it for a future video. But anyway, if you like this video, check out my channel and if you want to come along, subscribe. Either way, I'm stoked you're here and I'll see you next time. This packable down puffer jacket might be the perfect thing for Pacific Northwest winter.
