Merrell Moab 3 & Moab Speed 2 - What’s the difference?
These are both Merrell Moab's, but they're also both completely different shoes. One is more traditional and the other is more sporty. They're both available as shoes or boots, and they both come in waterproof, non-waterproof, or Gore-Tex variants, respectively. They both have Vibram outsoles, although the standard Moab 3 has more durability at the cost of better grip. And the Moab Speed 2 doesn't last for as long, but offers way better grip. I don't have a scale, but according to my pinkies, the Moab Speed 2 is lighter than the Moab 3. And that makes sense because the Moab 3 offers a lot better protection on the trail. Just more armor on the toe and heel, and this sole is a lot thicker than this one. That's not to say that the Moab Speed 2 isn't a great hiking shoe, because it is. But if you're looking to do backpacking or hauling any kind of weight, I would choose this over this. They both fit true to size and are incredibly comfortable out of the box, which makes sense because they're both Merrell's. And speaking of comfort, they both come with kind of crappy insoles from the factory, which seems to be the calling card of every shoe manufacturer, but that's why companies like Super Feet make aftermarket insoles. One of these shoes isn't really better than the other. If you're looking for a more traditional hiking boot or shoe, get the Moab 3. If you're looking for a newer take or something just lighter weight in general, the Moab Speed 2 is a good bet. Honestly, I don't know why they called the Moab Speed 2 the Moab at all because it doesn't even feel like the standard Moab whenever you wear it. It's just totally different. I get it if they want to keep the Moab branding. I mean, it is a pretty clever acronym. It stands for Mother of All Boots, in case you didn't know, not the town in Utah. And that's something I learned this year. But it would make more sense to everyone if they just called the Moab the Moab and didn't start calling other shoes by its name. But I guess Merrell's the one making the stuff. And if they made hats and wanted to call something like this a Moab hat, I guess it's a Moab, too. If you like this video, that's rad because these are the types of videos I make. So check out my channel. But either way, I'm stoked you're here. I'll see you next time. And the other is more sporty.
