An “entry level” rain jacket - Arc’teryx Beta
(Please note the below text is a video transcript)
This is the Arc'teryx Beta rain jacket, which is Arc'teryx's entry level rain jacket. It comes with Gore-Tex ePE, which is a fabric developed in conjunction with Arc'teryx and Gore-Tex. The goal of this fabric is to not intentionally add PFAS chemicals, which we've all recently learned are things that cause cancer, birth defects, and all sorts of terrible stuff. So, I guess good job for not putting that in the jacket anymore. One of the big differences with Gore-Tex ePE is it looks like it's wetting through even though it's still performing just as well as the old school Gore-Tex. Or at least that's what they say. Arc'teryx is known for excellent fit and this jacket is no slouch. I ordered a size large. I'm 6'2 and 190 lb and it fits me exactly how I want.. With a little bit of extra room. Aside from pit zips, it comes with all of the other features you would expect from a premium rain jacket. A drawstring on the hood, really nice Velcro around the wrists, elastic drawstring adjustment around the hip for an even better fit. A big oversized zipper makes it easy to zip up and down, and an oversized hood keeps the rain off your face. It even comes with a little secret pocket inside of the jacket. And when it comes to value, it's the same spiel I give every time I review an Arc'teryx product. I did buy this jacket with my own money. So, the idea of forking over $400 for a rain jacket when just about every other manufacturer on the market has the same thing for probably 50% as much makes it a difficult thing to get over. Unless you don't care about the cost and want the very best, then just get the Arc'teryx and you'll be done.
