How to DWR - Rain Jacket Waterproofing

(Please note the below text is a transcript of the video)

This is what a rain jacket looks like when it needs more durable water repellent, which is starchy stuff that helps rain gear actually be waterproof. It works through some scientific I don't really understand, but I do understand that if you follow these next steps, including a crucial one that I missed for years, your jacket's going to be doing a lot better than mine. First step is to make sure the doggy poo bags and snot rags are out of your pockets. Close all the zippers on the jacket. Check for any extra dirt. If it is there, just rinse it or wipe it off. Ideally, you're going to use a front loading washing machine without an agitator. But if you have one like mine, it's no big deal. We're going to wash your jacket first before we add waterproofing. But don't use standard detergent. Use the special stuff. Make sure and follow the instructions all the way. Ask me how I know. And then run a wash cycle before you waterproof. Now that we're ready to waterproof, you don't have to do anything but run another cycle following the instructions on the waterproofing bottle. They make it so easy. Now, the final and crucial step is to tumble dry your jacket on low as long as the care label allows to set the DWR coating so that it lasts longer. The hope is you can get in the shower wearing this baby and not get wet at all. And the fabric at the end just looks so cool. But there you go. That's how it's done.
