Lightweight and capable - Arc’teryx Atom Jacket Review

This is the Arc'teryx Atom jacket. It's a lightweight mid layer, which means it's designed to not be super insulative because it's supposed to be worn underneath something that's more insulative or windproof or what have you. For a day like today though, where it's in the low 50s and a light breeze, it's kind of a perfect standalone, especially if you're out somewhere working up a sweat or if you pair it with a warm hat. It has a couple of different types of fabric like this parachute style fabric on the outside that does an okay job at providing a light level of windproofness. And on the sides there's this grid fleece type stuff that I think is really warm and adds an extra layer of breathability. This of course being the jacket is the non-hooded version and it's a funny thing for me to get used to because I haven't bought a non-hooded jacket in a while. So I keep reaching for the hood and expecting something to be there. It has drawstring closures around the waist and these little cinchies around the wrist, but overall it is a pretty simple jacket. As far as fit, finish, and quality, it's Arc'teryx, so it's just going to be good and fancy and all that and whatever. One of the things I like about modern Arc'teryx stuff is this little zipper pull. The jackets all seem to have it. These two little diamond shaped things grip the back of my thumb really well and allow me to easily zip up and down the jacket. It's a little detail, but I think it's a nice touch. As far as sizing goes, this is a medium, which for me is weird. I almost always wear large or extra large since I'm 6'2 and 190 lb. But in this jacket, a medium is perfect. And that's kind of funny because my Cerium Hoody is a size extra large. And I really like how that one fits, too. So, I guess in the world of Arc'teryx, depending on what it is, I'm between a medium and an extra large. Moral of the story, try on Arc'teryx stuff before you buy it because it may fit you totally different than it fits me. And something I almost forgot, really soft feeling fabric for your neck. So when it's zipped up all the way, it feels like you got a little blanket around it. Anyway, if you like this video, check out my channel. And if you want to come along, subscribe. But either way, I'm stoked you're here and I'll see you next time. It's getting cold.
